950 firefighters, 1,103 steps, 51 floors, 25 kilograms of kit – and a 3rd Sky Tower Challenge for SWE’s Malcolm Clemett!

Malcolm (as well as working full-time at SWE) also serves his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Seddon Fire Brigade. This weekend Malcolm will join firefighters from around the country to race to the top of the Sky Tower in Auckland, in full firefighting kit, to raise money for charity. All funds raised go to Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand.

“Every day 6 children and adults in New Zealand are diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a related blood condition. Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families living with blood cancers like leukaemia and related blood conditions.”

This is Malcolm’s third year competing in the Sky Tower Challenge for LBC. He has been training since early January, running 1,300 stairs per week. He has been training at a local winery and using the parking building in town. Malcolm has previously completed the challenge in 15 minutes and 15 seconds, and in 16 minutes 5 seconds, and has raised $3,000 for LBC in previous years.

Malcolm explains:

“The main reason I run this event is to raise funds for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand – as the 16 minutes of pain (of competing) is nothing compared to what the families go through with this type of cancer.”

If you’d like to join SWE in sponsoring Malcolm you can find his fundraising page here: https://secure.leukaemia.net.nz/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?registrationID=1164964&langPref=en-CA#&panel1-1

Best of luck Malcolm!
